St. Patty's Day Fun

Here are a few things that we have been doing in honor of St. Patrick's Day.

I made Alex a green St. Patrick themed sensory bin.

I had everything on hand. A lot of it is left over from last years bin So what's inside?
Dried green split peas
Some snakes
Some craft foam rainbow colored strips
craft foam shamrocks
yellow jewels
some painted gold stones
A green funky gift bow
Lacing beads and string
Green spoons
Green and yellow interlocking stars

I also made him some rainbow play dough. I used the recipe I found via Counting Coconuts' blog. It's so easy and turns out great every time!!I found these perfect containers at the Dollar Tree for storing the play dough, a package of 6 for $1!

We will be traveling on St. Patrick's day so I made Alex a early St. Patrick's themed lunch.
Its a PB&J sandwich cut into a circle for the leprechaun's face, the eyes are marshmallow and mini m&m's, the rosy cheeks are a freeze dried yogurt bites. His beard is cheddar cheese and his hat is a green apple. I also included a small amount of Lucky Charms cereal, 3 gold chocolate coins and a glass of green milk. I was inspired by Meet the Dubiens lunch although hers was healthier.

Alex made a some fun St. Patty's themed things at preschool too.  A silly shamrock guy.
And a shamrock crown.
Of course have been reading a few fun themed books too.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday today I made Alex a Seuss themed lunch.

The Lorax is a round piece of bread with shredded cheddar cheese, turkey eyes and some mini M&M's for pupils and a nose. Some rainbow Goldfish crackers for One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Green Eggs and Ham was really just turkey with some green food coloring painted on it. Some apples slices from Ten Apples Up on Top

To drink I made some of Yink's Pink Ink, from Wet Pet, Dry Pet, Your Pet, My Pet. It was milk with one drop of red food coloring.

For dessert I made a marshmallow pop that I created from inspiration from here and here. I used a rolling pin to flatten one marshmallow for the bottom piece of the hat and then cut 3 marshmallows in half, 3 halfs I dunked in water and coated with red colored sugar. The other 3 halves I left plain, and I had one extra half. I arranged them all on a kabob stick to create The Cat in the Hat shape. Alex thought it was yummy!

Alex did some activities at preschool that were Dr. Seuss related and of course we read some Suess books.

A Birthday Sensory Bin

In honor of Alex's 4th Birthday coming up this week, I whipped up a little birthday sensory bin. It is all from stuff I had around the house, but it is a great hit with him. He has been playing with it on and off all day.
So what's inside?
  • Some colored rice from a previous bin
  • Multi-colored pom poms
  • Birthday candles
  • four silicone cupcake liners
  • Some marbles
  • Some alphabet blocks leftover from Alex's 2nd birthday cake
  • A few little spiky balls
  • Ice cream scoop
  • A empty spice container
  • Kaleidoscope
Alex likes to make "cupcakes" for everyone in the house.

My Baby Started Preschool!

We "unexpectedly" enrolled Alex in preschool for the rest of the year. We went in a couple of weeks ago for a tour and he fit right in and loved it. Since they have open enrollment they said "He could start next week." What?! I don't think I'm ready. LOL He is ready though, and we knew it was a good decision. He needs more peer interaction. His first official day was Valentine's Day, which he loved because they had a party with plenty of Valentine's and sugary treats. The school was so fast to notify the other kids/ parents of Alex being a new student that he even got lots of Valentine's. He did great! The next couple days went well too. He did cry a couple times because some took the color crayon he wanted (only child not use to sharing),but overall he did very good. He is already on vacation. That's ok....I need to ease into this school thing. He is my baby on his 1st day.

Alex checking out all his Valentine's.

The Valentine he made Mommy and Daddy at school.

This week is birthday week. Alex turns 4 on Sunday! We plan on taking a trip to Boston to the Museum on Science. I hope to get in a few other birthday surprises too.
