B is for Bugs

A bug theme completes are week of studying the letter B.

We made some paper plate bugs. I got this kit to make all three bugs at the Dollar Tree. It was the perfect craft for our bug theme.

Alex did some bee printables from 2 Teaching Mommies

and a bug cutting worksheet from 1+1+1=1

I found these cute bug action cards at Oopsey Daisy Alex loved them. He wanted to do them over and over again.

He also worked on fine motor skills with peeling and sticking lady bug stickers on the letter "B"

For a snack I made him a lady bug apple and some cracker and peanut butter flying bugs.

B is for Balls, Bubbles and Balloons

Today was a lot of fun! The theme was balls, bubbles and balloons.

We did some baseball worksheets from 2 Teaching Mommies

We did some bubble painting.

and of course we went outside and blew bubbles. It is great speech therapy activity for building facial muscles and directing air out of his mouth. 

He did two different types of ball painting. We used a large marble and rolled it around inside a plastic bin with multicolored paint.

We also went outside and bounced a paint dipped ball on some paper and made big splats, as Alex called them.

We did some balloon tossing and tried to catch the balloon with a paper cone that I made from construction paper.

I made Alex mini waffle baseballs, with a syrup baseball bat and the letter "B"

We read a cute book about baseball  86 Years: The Legend of the Boston Red Sox by Melinda Boroson (We are from Massachusetts)

We also read a book about bubbles and being stuck on the bathtub. Tub-Boo-Boo by Margie Palatini

We watched the classic Sesame Street clip "B is for Bubble"

B is for Blueberries

Blue and Blueberries were today's theme. We had Gymboree class and had errands to run so we didn't get a lot of school in. I guess a little is better than none. Here is what we did do.

Alex painted blueberries with a pompom. We then made a basket around them using the wooden popsicle sticks that we were given thanks to craftprojectideas.com I got the idea for this craft from Little Page Turners.

We also practiced counting with some blue modeling clay that we made into "blueberries." It was good fine motor skill practice too.

I just wrote number 1-8 on the paper and made corresponding dots and Alex added the "blueberries." He does pretty good up to 5 then he gets mixed up.

For a snack he of course had blueberries and also a bowl of some blue yogurt with sprinkles.

B is for Bear

This week we are working on the letter B. We started the week with a bear theme.

He sorted Gummy Bears by color onto little paper houses I made.

Once then were all sorted we counted them together and I wrote the number of  bear on the house.

He did a letter "B" Do A Dot worksheet from Homeschool Creations.

and he did a bear sizing worksheet and a pre-writing worksheet from Homeschool Creations

We made a cut and paste Letter "B" bear. I got the idea from here.

His favorite activity we did was painting a bear with chocolate pudding. The idea came from here.

I made my first Muffin Tin lunch for him, with of course a bear theme.

A bear shaped piece of bread with peanut butter, some bear cookies, star shaped bananas and apples, a spoonful more of chocolate pudding and some berry yogurt with star shaped sprinkles. Yum!

A is for Astronaut

 Our last letter "A" theme is astronauts. Alex loves spaceships and rockets so this was an obvious choice. He did a Do A Dot worksheets from Making Learning Fun

We made a paper plate astronaut. I got the idea from here.

I made him a Astronaut/space sensory bin. He loves it!

I filled it with black beans. I added a bunch of his little space figures (most of them are from this Space Toob), a plastic spaceship, a little bouncy ball, I cut up a silver plastic star necklace that we got for the 4th of July and added all the stars, I rolled up some aluminum foil and added a couple balls of that, a couple of silver and gold pompoms and a larger yellow ball to represent the sun. The total cost of this bin was $2 for 2 bags of beans. We had everything else on hand.

For lunch I made him a star shaped pb&j sandwich, some star shaped watermelon and as dessert we tried Astronaut ice cream.

I got the the Astronaut Ice cream (freeze dried ice cream) in the camping/ hiking section of our local sporting goods store. I had it as a kid and it definitely wasn't as good as I remember it. lol
