Hand and Foot Print Lobster

The other day I helped Alex make a cute and super easy hand and foot print lobster to go along with the other sea creatures artwork Alex has made. You can read that post here. I love handprint art.

Alex insisted that it have huge googly eyes, I didn't protest because I think it made it even cuter. LOL

It was the perfect addition to our little kitchen artwork display.

B is for Bunny

In preparation for Easter we made a few bunnies today to decorate our house.

We made a paper plate bunny. I found the idea here. It was super easy and fun. Alex got to practice gluing and painting. Simply take 2 white paper plates, cut one in half and then cut a strip off of each half to make a bunny ear shape. Then glue them on the back side of your whole plate. Add eyes, some cotton ball cheeks, and a little bow. Paint the inside of the ears pink, add a pink nose and draw on a mouth.

We talked about the letter B and and used Do A Dot markers to color in a worksheet from Making Learning Fun.

We made some hand print bunnies. To make these little bunnies just paint part of your child's hand. We did the index finger and ring finger, because he has such small hands. Older children or adults could paint their index finger and pinky finger to create a bunny face. Use the thumb and pink paint to make the nose. I drew on the rest of the features with a black marker.

I came up with a quick game to practice letters ABC and numbers 123. I wrote the numbers and letters on some paper plates and placed them on the floor. I told Alex to pretend that he was a bunny and hop on the letter or number I called out. He liked this game. Next time I place the plates on the rug, because they were kind of slippery on the laminate floor.

Another game we played that Alex loved was sound matching with plastic Easter eggs. I got this awesome idea from Kerri at Elle Belle's Bows.   She has a great blog so check it out.

Fill some plastic eggs with some objects that would make a sound. Make a set of each sound. I used some rice, jingle bells and some coins. Have your child shake them and match up the two eggs that sound the same. He can then open them to confirm that they are the same items in both eggs. I have to find some other item to put in the eggs and play this game again with Alex. He really enjoyed this game and wanted to keep playing it.

Santa and Ice Decorations

Today we read  Jolly Old Santa Claus by Alice Leedy Mason and George Hinke

This is the condensed board book version but it still features some of the beautiful oil paintings by George Hinke. The story line seems a bit cut up in this version though. Alex enjoyed looking at the pictures and pointing out details that he thought were interesting. We do have a paper back version too, but Alex's attention span isn't that long to listen to the whole story.


After reading about Santa we made a hand print Santa. I helped Alex put white paint on his hand and then stamp it on a piece of blue paper. We then added a face and hat out of construction paper, some googly eyes and cotton balls. We added a couple of craft foam snowflakes to the background. It came out very cute.

A few days ago I saw this post by the Artful Parent and have been wanting to try making natural ice wreath and ornaments. The idea is very easy just add water and some colorful berries or leaves into a containers, add a string for hanging and freeze. It was about 20 degrees today so it was plenty cold enough. We bundled up and went out around our yard to find some colorful leaves and berries. It was cold!!! We quickly found some stuff to use, we put them together inside because it was so cold.

Thanksgivinig Activities

~Alex is 32 months~

So I decided to take a break for the alphabet so we could do some of the fun Thanksgiving activities I have seen in the blog world.

We read Five Silly Turkeys  by Salina Yoon

This is a cute little Thanksgiving counting book, it counts backward from five. Very similar to Ten Terrible Dinosaurs that we read the other week. 


We went for a walk even though it was gray and dismal outside. Woody HAD to come with us.

Woody climbed  a tree.

We made a hand print turkey. Alex put red, orange and yellow hand prints on a piece of paper. Then I cut out a circle and oval out of a brown paper bag for the body. I drew on the details and then we glued on some googly eyes. Then I cut out the turkey.

 Then Alex worked on sorting people and food from 1+1+1=1 Thanksgiving Preschool Pack

and we did some puzzles from Lawteedah's Thanksgiving Tot Kit

We haven't used our cardboard blocks for a while so I pulled them out and Alex had a great time building towers and then destroying them.

Dinosaur Day

Today we read Ten Terrible Dinosaurs by Paul Stickland

We enjoyed this book. Its a cute book that teaches counting backwards. It has cute colorful illustrations.

Today we made a hand print dinosaur. I got this adorable idea from No Time For Flashcards post. I cut out the dino shape out of construction paper and let Alex glue it to a piece of white paper. Then we added his hand prints. He loves making hand print art.

Alex wanted to add some orange "rocks"to his picture with a foam brush.

We also worked on some dinosaur shape worksheets that were made by Yellow Mums. She has some great printables and a Etsy shop too. Check her out.

A Buggy Day

In the morning we went to our Messy Art playgroup and Alex had a lot of fun playing with shaving cream, making sand and seaweed muffins and creating some play dough masterpieces. Of course I ran out of the house with out my camera. So no pictures this week. One of these weeks I will remember it.


The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle



This is a favorite book of ours. We also watched the Youtube video, Alex really enjoyed it.

Today we made this really cute handprint caterpillar, I got the idea from No Time For Flash Cards post.

 I also made Alex a spider color match game. Using some spiders I made out of styrofoam ball that were cut in half, paint, pipe cleaner legs and some googly eyes. I printed a web coloring book page and added a color circle on it. This game was really too easy for Alex. He imediately matched the spiders to the webs. At least they will be cute Halloween decorations. LOL

I found a little more complex bee/ flower matching printout from here for Alex. He was able to complete it, and it was definitely more challenging for him.
