End of Summer Camping Trip

Over the weekend we went camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We had so much fun, but unfortunately had to end out trip early because of severe thunderstorms and flash flood warnings.

We stayed at the Moose Hillock Camp Ground. It is great place with lots of fun activies for the kiddos. It has a huge pool with a pirate ship and water slides, a playground, and a stocked fish pond.

We did some hiking in Franconia State Park. So beautiful there.

Mountain water is COLD

Fall is right around the corner

We went to Clark's Trading Post. I love this place. It is a family run, old fashion, roadside attraction. It has an amazing trained bear show, a old fashion steam engine that goes into  "Wolfman territory", a crazy crooked hillbilly house, Merlin Magical Mansion (the room flips upside down), bumper boats, Segway Safari's, rock climbing wall and museums filled with Americana. I highly recommend this place.

Alex is already talking about camping next summer.

Hand and Foot Print Lobster

The other day I helped Alex make a cute and super easy hand and foot print lobster to go along with the other sea creatures artwork Alex has made. You can read that post here. I love handprint art.

Alex insisted that it have huge googly eyes, I didn't protest because I think it made it even cuter. LOL

It was the perfect addition to our little kitchen artwork display.

Ocean In A Bottle

Tonight we our own little ocean in a bottle. The idea came from here. This was a easy, quick, inexpensive and fun craft.

To make our little ocean we used a funnel to fill a clear bottle approximately 1/3 full with water.  We added a few small shells and a plastic shark, and a couple drops of blue food coloring. We filled the rest of the bottle with some vegetable oil. Clear vegetable oil or mineral oil would have been ideal but we didn't have any on-hand.  I sealed the bottle closed with some hot glue.

Alex was very interested that the water and oil would not mix. I showed him how to lay it on its side and gently move it back and forth to make "waves."

A Playhouse Redo

A couple months ago we bought Alex a used very inexpensive playhouse on Craigslist. It was a few years old and a little faded. We decided to give it a makeover.
I took it apart and masked off the trim with painters tape. I wanted the trim to stay the tan color.

I used Krylon Fusion for Plastic spray paint. It only came in a limited number of colors at our local store so I decided to paint the roof brown, the siding green, the chimney red and the shutters tan. It only took a couple hours to paint everything, it dries to touch in 15 minutes and it becomes chip resistance in 7 days. It really brightened up the house and we were very happy with the outcome.

It is missing the door, so we need to find a solution to fix that. We also plan on adding a mail box and making a little log fence around his playhouse very soon.

Under the Sea

Lately we've been really busy with a good friend's wedding. Last week we did get a chance to make some sea creature crafts. We made this cute hand print crab. This was another idea that I got from Pinterest. The original post came from here.

After the hand prints dried. I painted on some glue and he sprinkled sand on it to make a beach. He also added some googly eyes.

He also free painted a couple of starfish shapes that I had cut out for him.

We also did a sorting printable and a pre-writing printable from Homeschool Creations' Ocean Pack and we watched a Under the Sea Song clip from Disney's The Little Mermaid on Youtube.
